When I decided to trek to the Base Camp of the Annapurna in the month of March, I did not look up for Google pictures of the Trek or read extensively about it. I only knew the names of the camps and villages we’d be staying at. Apart from that, the only thing my friend told me about the route was that there’d be a lot of steps. And there indeed were a LOT of never ending steps till the snow line.
As we entered the snowline, the steps slowly vanished. And so does everything else – it was like a white board. The landscape was completely white washed by the snow!
I was completely blown out by the majestic mountain peaks all around us, the ever changing Macchapuchare Peak, the tiny and beautiful village settlements in remotest locations and their way of living, and the wrath of the snow God (whoever that is).
There are many amazing things about this trek and so many good memories from this place. But following are some of the reasons why I liked the trek and so would you; and why you should try it out!
1. For those picturesque long iron suspension bridges connecting the steep valleys
2. For those always visible and ever changing – Macchapuchare / Fish Tail Peak
3. For those pretty sight of snow covered Annapurna Massif
4. For the amazing Vistas throughout
5. For knowing oneself and to challenge yourself
It definitely looks like a paradise. But the struggle is real. The cold, the sudden gain in the height, the never ending steps and your heaviest backpack – they all tell you to stop. But with some good amount of training and fitness, and right gear, you should be able to experience one heaven of a trek! This is a trek every mountain person would surely enjoy.
